President’s Report –
- Nominating committee: Amanda is continuing to seek members of the committee. The committee will need to know what members plan to keep their position and who will be stepping down next year.
- Math and Science Night is scheduled for 1/22/13 at 6pm. Mrs. Baucom has been emailed about the needs for that night and Liz Philpott will be asked to follow up to determine volunteer needs.
- May Event: A discussion was had about whether or not to have the Brain Show return, bring back a talent show or to bring an author during that time. Mrs. White will be asked to poll the teachers to see if they would support the Brain Show coming near the time of SOLs and then a decision will be made.
- January PTA social: On Jan. 10th from 7pm-9pm there will be a social held at Plaza del Sol to encourage members to get to know your PTA, ask question and find out more about our PTA community.
Principal’s Report – Dr. Melise was praising the success of the recent Book Fair. A discussion was had about ways we can use the PTA fundraising and the best areas in which to spend the money we raise. Dr. Melise stated that technology is the school’s greatest need.
Teacher’s Report – none
Membership/Directory – Jenn Mann announced that the directories were distributed to classrooms and the youngest sibling was to receive it in their class. An email went out to see if additional directories needed to be printed.
Reporter / Constant Contact – Kerry Solan reported that the next deadline will be 1/2/13 for a Jan. 10th distribution. Bug Gallagher reported that Constant Contact had increased its opening rate to the 190s and without ads she has been able to keep the information applicable and useful.
Publishing House – Jessica Chesson, former 2nd grade teacher and Larchmont and current parent, has stepped forward to chair the committee. She will continue to solicit volunteers for the grade levels.
Rachel’s Challenge – a recent assemble on ant-bullying, kindness and compassion has started an initiative with paper link for each kind act in the classroom. They will continue to collect the links all year.
Author Visit –Lisa Cohn has been researching authors to visit and needs to determine if we want to bring a well-known author this year and when that would be. The alternative is to have a lesser know author come this year and save our budget for a vist next year during the book fair. After she hears back from the teacher’s poll about the May event, a decision will be made.
The next meeting will be held at the school, at 6:30 pm on 1/7/13.
The meeting adjourned at 10:24.
